SECURITY MONITOR – LIBRARY – Position # 802.  Part-Time Regular, non-exempt position; $10.16/hour; 20 hours/week; partial benefits.  Variable schedule including nights and weekends.  Job is located at  the Williamsburg Library and James City County Library localities. 

  • DUTIES:  Conducts regular checks on the security of the Williamsburg Regional Library’s buildings, parking lots, and grounds. Works with library staff to ensure order and safety and enforce user compliance with the library's policies. Investigates complaints of disruptive user behavior and handles each situation appropriately. Notifies Librarian management or the Librarian In Charge and police in cases of serious discipline, security, and safety problems and completes appropriate reports.  Serves as a liaison with the police department.
  • REQUIRED:  High school diploma or equivalent; security experience preferred; or equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience to provide necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to handle all essential functions of the position.  
  • ALSO REQUIRED:  A post-offer criminal history records check and drug test. Ability to travel among various library sites.

SPECIAL PROJECTS COORDINATOR – Position # 807.  Full-Time Regular; exempt position; $37,769/year or higher DOQ; 40 hours/week; full benefits; Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 

  • DUTIES:  Assists the Special Projects Director in the implementation and evaluation of all aspects of the library's communication plan.  Composes and prepares written materials independently; drafts, edits, and formats presentations and reports for staff from all library divisions; compiles and prepares statistical and narrative reports.  Assists in proofreading, researching, compiling, analyzing, tracking, and maintaining information for reports, statistics, inventories, and special projects. Edits and coordinates production and distribution of promotional materials, including monthly newsletter and other publications, both print and digital.  Assists with preparation of news releases and graphic materials.  
  • REQUIRED:  Bachelor’s degree or combination of higher education and experience in a related field.  Skill in written and verbal communication, including accurate copyediting and proofreading; extensive computer experience, preferably Microsoft Office and graphics programs; experience with communications required; experience providing training preferred; experience working in a library environment preferred or equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience to provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to handle all essential functions of the position.
