Beacon of Freedom Award

The Beacon of Freedom Award was presented through 2015 to a book that introduced American history, from Colonial times through the Civil War, to children in a historically-accurate and engaging manner.

Congratulations to Nathan Hale, author of One Dead Spy, which was our 2015 Beacon of Freedom Award Winner.  This award program ended in 2015.

Who Sponsored the Award?
The award was a joint program of The Williamsburg Regional Library and Colonial Williamsburg. The Disabled American Veterans Patrick Henry Chapter 34 provided funding.

Who Selected the Winner?
A committee of members from the above three organizations selected each year's nominees. Students in 4th-8th grades from participating schools in James City and York counties evaluated each title. Students from each school chose the final winner.
