WAR IN FICTION

It is well that war is so terrible, or we should grow too fond of it.
         Robert E. Lee, 1862

Since the time of Homer, tales of war and battles have fascinated readers and listeners alike. These stories may look at the trials of war from the perspective of an individual soldier, or may take a broader view of an entire campaign’s strategy and tactics. The focus may be on heroism and glory or on fear and desperation, or even may find some humor in the military life, and often the story may include all of these elements. At their heart though, war stories are about people being tested, emotionally, intellectually and physically. The titles below look at war and the military from a variety of perspectives, and cover historical ground from ancient times to the present day.  If you need help locating these or other titles about war and the military, speak with the reference librarians.
