Automated Services
Function
Automated Services is in many ways the nerve center of the Williamsburg Regional Library system. We operate mainly behind the scenes, yet our work touches all aspects of the modern library. In simple terms, we provide the technical infrastructures on which the library's card catalog runs.

Personnel
Automated Services is composed of four full time positions. Brett Charbeneau is our Network Administrator and Judy Fuss is our Systems Administrator. They maintain the system which houses the card catalog database and its related systems including the library network which allows for better computing in the library. Stephen D'Amico and Kraston Scott are our Microcomputer Technicians. They provide hardware and software maintenance for personal computers in both libraries. Because we are a small department, each of us has the opportunity to tackle all aspects of library technology.

Technology Overview
The Williamsburg Regional Library system consists of two libraries separated by nearly ten miles. We have a common card catalog system that is used in both libraries by the patrons to perform searches of our collection and maintain patron records. Most aspects of library function are managed by this one package, from the acquisition of new materials to tracking overdue items, patron histories, and reserves.
