Reading
Rampage
The
Reading Rampage takes place twice a year at the James City
County Library. Watch the newsletter for the next one!
Read below for more information:
Students in grades 6-12 are
invited to participate in a 4 1/2-hour reading marathon and be
eligible to win gift cards to Target.
During the five hour event, students will read quietly
during the silent reading periods, have a 10 minute break each
hour and a 30 minute lunch break.
Please
bring these items with you:
- Whatever
you need to create a private reading space.
For example, a quilt, a triangular pillow, or a
collapsible chair.
- A
bag lunch.
- Three
12 or 16 oz beverages with screw tops.
We will chill all of the beverages and serve them
during the day. You
will not necessarily get to drink the exact beverages that
you bring. This
will be sort of a potluck of beverages.
- A
telephone number where a parent or guardian can be reached
during the day.
Here
are the Rules:
- You
must read for the entire reading period, which will
actually be less than 5 hours.
No books on tape, no computers, no listening
devices, no drawing, doodling or note taking.
- You
may bring reading materials from home or read from the
materials available at the library.
- You
must raise your hand if you need the attention of one of
the librarians.
- You
may choose to quit at any time. Please raise your hand and
quietly inform the librarian in charge at the time that
you are going to leave the contest.
At that time, you may call home for a ride.
If you
have any additional questions,
please call the Youth Services Desk at 259-7733.
