Mike Caplice joined the Foundation board in July 2005. Holding an MBA from Case Western Reserve University, Mike has worked at IBM, been a bank Vice President, taught for New York University and managed several small corporations. As a college sophomore, he worked for the Erie Railroad. When that summer job ended he found a mid summer job at Chautauqua Institution's Smith Memorial Library and fell in love with libraries (and a librarian, his wife). He also served in the U.S. Army and Reserve for 13 years. He currently acts as a tour guide for Maximum Guided Tours, Storyteller for Weavers of the Word, and is on the board of Directors of the Christopher Wren Association. About his experience at Chautauqua Mike explains, it was "quite a change from sweaty Levis and swinging a sledge hammer to clean dress shirts, books and gentlemanly language. That summer I experienced first hand that a library should be and can be much more than just a collection of books."
