James C. Livingston joined the Foundation board in July 2005. The Walter G. Mason Professor of Religion Emeritus at the College of William and Mary, Jim was the founding head of the Department of Religion in 1968. He earned his doctorate from Columbia University. He has taught at Columbia University, New York University, and Southern Methodist University. During his tenure as a William and Mary professor he served as Dean of Undergraduate Programs for five years, authored numerous books, and received William and Mary’s Thomas Jefferson Award. He is a volunteer instructor with the Christopher Wren Association. Regarding the library he notes, "Williamsburg can be proud of its excellent public library which has served our wider community for so many decades. And I'm delighted that it is so widely used by our citizens and has become a crucial asset to this vibrant community."
