POSITION TITLE: Homebound Services Volunteer
DIVISION: Mobile Library Services
SUPERVISOR: Mobile Library Services Manager, Adult and Homebound Outreach
LENGTH OF COMMITMENT: Preference for 1 year minimum.
TIME INVOLVEMENT: Schedule to be determined, one to two visits per month.
POSITION SUMMARY: Be an information lifeline for homebound users. Willingness to use your own transportation for delivery and retrieval of library materials from library users living in Williamsburg or James City County.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Follow assigned schedule for regular delivery/pickup cycle for homebound client; may use library catalog and select books based on homebound client’s interests for delivery; deliver library materials to homebound client and pick up library materials for return at the Williamsburg or James City County Library; conduct interview with client about materials borrowed to determine likes/dislikes and relate those interests to appropriate library staff; regularly report on client contacts to Mobile Library Services Manager, Adult and Homebound Outreach.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift 25 pounds and transport library materials.
QUALIFICATIONS: Ability and willingness to understand and carry out oral and written instructions efficiently. Ability to maintain good work habits, work under minimal supervision, follow through on numerous details and meet deadlines. Ability to work well with other volunteers, employees, and homebound patrons. Must possess a Williamsburg Regional Library card and have a clean library record.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Minimum age 18. There is a strong preference for two volunteers attending for any visit to homebound patrons. Undergo criminal background check and library training. Valid drivers license required.
