POSITION TITLE: General Adult Services assistant
DIVISION: Adult Services (Reference)
SUPERVISOR: Adult Services Volunteer Supervisor
LENGTH OF COMMITMENT: Six months (preferable)
TIME INVOLVEMENT: 2 to 5 hours weekly. No more than 10 hours weekly.
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Adult Services volunteer supervisor, this volunteer performs a variety of duties in the Adult Services division including shelving and clerical work.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: responsibilities includes but are not limited to: shelving books; straightening magazines and newspapers; shelf reading; filing microfilm and other materials; processing telephone books; doing trace reports and/or searching for missing books; checking donated magazines for missing issues; retrieving materials from shelves; carrying materials from one library division to another; helping to process mending books; helping patrons at the public photocopiers and microfilm readers; searching the computer catalog; answering simple, directional questions from patrons; helping with clerical work as needed; special projects.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school and some college or some clerical/library experience preferred. Ability to type and good communications skills. Ability to typically stand and walk 75% of time. Ability to lift 15 pounds. Ability to reach top and bottom shelves and push full book carts. Bending and stooping required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Minimum age 16 (unless approved by Reference volunteer supervisor).
