WELCOME TO THE
WILLIAMSBURG REGIONAL LIBRARY

The Williamsburg Regional Library System offers our community a full-range of traditional library services--more than 380,000 books, videos, compact discs, books on cassette--plus access to electronic resources that continue to grow and expand on a daily basis. WRL users regularly compliment staff on their excellent service to the community. Staff have also won many awards for their programs and other special services to the community. Check out the What’s New page for the details.

The mission of the Williamsburg Regional Library supports many community needs. It reads:

Free access to information is a foundation of democracy. The Williamsburg Regional Library, a basic government service, provides that access through resources and programs that educate, enrich, entertain, and inform every member of our community.

Library service is provided to the greater Williamsburg community with a professional and expert staff, an exemplary collection, and extraordinary programs. In 2004 our Children’s department received national recognition through the Giant Step award for Looking to Learn. Looking to Learn builds reading skills and art appreciation for local elementary and middle school students.

The award winning Philip West Memorial Cancer Resource Center, created through a partnership with Sentara Williamsburg Community Hospital, provides access to a wide range of resources, both local and global, for cancer patients, their families, and care-givers. On-going library partnerships with organizations such as the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), Colonial Williamsburg, League of Women Voters, and Williamsburg-James City County Schools create and sustain important resources that affect nearly everyone living here.

We have an on-going program to upgrade library facilities to ensure they afford comfortable, efficient, accessible, and safe environments to visitors and staff.

The library’s 2006-2010 Strategic Plan was adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Williamsburg Regional Library in December 2005. This plan is a guide for the library's development over this time span. We look forward to working with our community and funding entities during this period as we strive to maintain the quality of programming and services that is a hallmark of our institution. As a part of our strategic plan WRL will continue to seek out new and creative ways of service provision to insure that all citizens have access to the information they need when they need it.

On behalf of the Staff and Board of Trustees of the Williamsburg Regional Library, I welcome you to your libraries. Come visit us in person and through our website. Our excellent staff stands ready to assist you as you search for the information or reading materials you need. Come, use and enjoy!
