Computer Reservation

1.  Do I need a library barcode to reserve a computer?
Yes, you will need a Williamsburg Regional Library barcode number in order to place a reservation at the Williamsburg location.  (At the James City County Library computers are not on the reservation system and patrons do not need a barcode to access these computers.)

2.  How do I get a library card?
You can obtain a library card at the library's circulation desk.  If you are visiting, you can get a temporary card at any catalog terminal.

3.  How do I reserve a computer?
You can sign-up at the Computer Sign-Up station for a full session
   
To reserve a computer now:
        1.  Click NEXT AVAILABLE PC
        2.  Type your library barcode number (enter all fourteen digits of your card number) and then click NEXT
        3.  Select the type of computer you wish to reserve (Sit down Or Internet Express or Any) and click SUBMIT.
        4.  A window with your computer number, date, and time of reservation and the wait time will appear.  Click ACCEPT RESERVATION or CANCEL RESERVATION.  Print your receipt.  Your receipt shows your user ID, computer number, date, time, and length of session.
        5.  When your computer is available go to your assigned computer.  The monitor will show RESERVED in red letters. Enter your library card number and click OK to begin your session.  You may sign in early, but the length of your session will remain the same.
   
To make a future reservation:
          1.  Click FUTURE RESERVATION   
        2.  Type your library card number and select the type of computer you wish to reserve (sit down or express or any) and click SUBMIT.
        3.  Use the drop down menus to select the date and time you wish to reserve a computer.
        4.  Click ACCEPT RESERVATION.
        5.  Print your receipt.  Your receipt shows the computer number, date, and time of your reservation.

4.  If I see an empty computer work station may I use it?
If you see an empty computer workstation you may sign-up for a session on that computer; however if the computer is reserved you may only receive a partial session. (Remember: a partial session counts toward your two sessions a day.)
        1.  When a PC is not in use the monitor will show either RESERVED or AVAILABLE.
        2.  If the monitor shows AVAILABLE then a full session is allowed.  If RESERVED is showing then a shortened session might be available.  Click on the message that is displayed.
        3.  Type in your library card number and name and then click OK.
        4.  The @ CLIENT RESERVATION SYSTEM window will display the length of the session available. Click USE THIS COMPUTER.

5.  What types of library computers can I reserve?
You can reserve an Internet Express terminal with Internet only or a sit down station with Internet and Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Power Point).

6.  How much time can I have on the library's computers?
Internet Express terminals are limited to twenty minute sessions and Sit down terminals are limited to one hour sessions.

7.  How far in advance can I reserve a computer?
You can reserve a computer seven days in advance.

8.  How many computer sessions can I have per day?
You can have two computer sessions per day.

9.  If no one else is signed up for a computer can I stay on longer?
If there are no reservations on your computer, you will have the option of a fifteen minute extension.

10.  Can I request a specific computer?
You can not reserve a specific computer.

11. What if I am late for my reservation?
Reservations are held for five minutes.  After five minutes, the computer will become available to another user.  An unclaimed reservations counts toward a used session.

12. Do the computers time out at the end of the session?
Pop-up alert messages will appear at 10, 5, and 2 minutes left in your session.  When the session is over the computer will log off.

13. If I have to leave the computer for a few minutes will I lose my session?
You can lock your session if you need to take a break or pick up your print job.  If you do not lock your session and there is no activity for five minutes, you will be logged off the computer.
