Relache

Series: Dewey Decibel Concerts

“Uniquely stimulating, thought-provoking and, ultimately, beautiful” (Philadelphia City Paper)

Relache has an international reputation for commissioning and performing innovative and exciting contemporary music. The octet--woodwind quartet plus viola, keyboards, percussion and bass — plays with “dedication, high spirits and near-telepathic sense of teamwork” (New York Times). Created in 1977 as a composer-performer collective in Philadelphia, Relache offers world-class performances of contemporary American and international composers, including works by John Cage, Philip Glass, Robert Ashley, and Kitty Brazelton. The classically trained players are also proficient in folk, jazz, rock and popular music, making Relache one of the most stylistically flexible groups performing today. The ensemble has released seven CDs and has performed over 200 commissioned works.

This performance is jointly sponsored by the Ewell Concert Series, the Williamsburg Regional Library’s Dewey Decibel Series, the Reves Center for International Studies, the Charles Center and the W&M Film Festival.
