Lotte from Gadgetville/Leiutajateku la Lotte (2006 / Estonia-Latvia / Heiki Ernits & Janno Põldma / 81m / NR-appropriate for all ages)

A sweet and gentle-spirited crowd-pleaser, this film is full of wacky contraptions, silly/happy songs, and a refreshingly un-cynical sense of humor. Lotte is a cheerful girl-dog who lives in the seaside town of Gadgetville, a village crazy about inventing. This first feature-length animated film from Estonia was enormously popular in its home country, besting The Incredibles at the box office, winning the prize for best animation, and becoming something of a national treasure.
