Local governments provide funding to cover the Williamsburg Regional Library's (WRL) capital and operating expenses, while the WRL Foundation and the Friends of WRL (a membership organization) invite philanthropic support.
The WRL Foundation (a 501(c)(3) nonprofit) was formed in 1992 and has its own Board of Directors and accounts. The Foundation does not aim to replace local government funding but rather to augment it. In the last six years, the Foundation has received gifts and pledges of nearly $650,000 on behalf of the Library. These funds are used to add to our library’s collections, enhance programs, and support services and facilities.
