A-9.0 Information Provided to New Patrons

A new patron packet consisting of a current library newsletter and various bookmarks such as Circulation policies, a map to the libraries and renewal policies should be given to new patrons at the time of registration. Patrons should be encouraged to read the information in this packet. In addition, the information detailed below should be reviewed with the patron as time allows. Since most of the information about library services is provided in written form, any additional information should be kept to a minimum.

A. The library card is permanent. If it is lost, stolen, or damaged there will be a $1.00 charge for replacement (non-refundable even if the original card is recovered) as long as the patron is still listed in the system.  The card may be used at the Williamsburg Library, James City County Library, and the Mobile Library Services. There is no charge to replace a barcode.
B. The phone numbers and hours of operation of both libraries are listed on the card. There are after-hours drop-boxes by the parking lot entrance and by the Scotland Street vestibules for returning items when the Williamsburg Library (WL) is closed. The after-hours book drops at James City County Library (JCCL) are located in the front of the main entrance. During operating hours at JCCL the book drops are located in the foyer of the main entrance to the right as patrons walk in. Items may be returned to either library regardless of where they were checked out.  They may also be returned to the book drop at the local Ukrops in the Monticello Shopping Center and the Farm Fresh on Merrimac Trail
C. Most items circulate for 28 days including adult non-feature, children's video's, DVD's and CD-ROM's. Adult feature videos and DVDs, junior magazines, park packs, and some new fiction books circulate for 7 days.
D. Renewals may be done over the phone or online.  When the patron calls, they will need to give staff their library card number in order to access the patron's record for renewals and other functions.

E. Any patron needing assistance with iPAC or finding materials should speak with the Reference or Youth Services desk staff.
