A-8.0 Replacement CostsA-8.1 When to Assess Charges
Replacement costs are assessed if any of the following conditions apply.A. A patron declares an item or part of a set lost.A-8.2 Determining Replacement ChargesB. An item has been overdue and still out for 55 days and has been declared lost by the computer.
C. An item has been damaged and is either partially repairable or beyond repair.
A. Staff assigned to final notices review and add charges as necessary when items are 30 days overdue. However, if a patron wishes to pay for a lost or damaged item before a final notice has been generated, and no price was added in the computer when the item was originally cataloged, circulation staff may need to add replacement charges at that time. The following sources should be consulted to assess charges:1. Computer price: This is the price that appears as "Charges - Lost" on the screen after an item is declared lost. Video prices of more than $35.00 should be verified.2. Baker and Taylor link, Books in Print, or Schwann Cassette Catalog.
3. Average Replacement Cost (ARC): Average replacement costs are determined by the Acquisitions Manager for use when no current replacement cost can be found in Baker and Taylor or Books in Print.

3. Videos, DVDs, and CD-ROMs: $5.00
C. Single audiocassettes or CDs from audiobooks can be replaced individually. No processing fee is charged for single cassette or CD replacements. The replacement charge is $8.00 per audiocassette or $10.00 per CD.D. Miscellaneous charges for damaged items:

The library does accept, but does not encourage, replacement copies of items and processing fees should be paid as determined by the library. Discrepancies should be referred to the Circulation Director for resolution.
