October is Virginia Archaeology Month

The library, in cooperation with Cultural Resources, Inc. and the National Park Service's Colonial National Historical Park will co-sponsor an exhibit at the James City County Library on artifacts recovered from Green Springs Plantation, the home site of Virginia's first governor, William Berkeley. The exhibit runs throughout October at JCCL and is being held in conjunction with Virginia Archaeology Month. Several programs will be held in conjunction with the exhibit. The exhibit and programs are free.

A lecture series on the recent excavations and future development of the Green Spring Plantation Park will be conducted on October 14, 21, and 28 at 7:00 p.m. at the James City County Library.

• Oct. 14 - The Oct. 14 lecture will be presented by the National Park Service on the status of the management plan and future development of the Green Springs Plantation Park.
• Oct. 21 - Oct. 21's presentation will be given by Dr. Matthew R. Laird, Senior Archaeologist with Cultural Resources, Inc. and he will speak on the recent excavations conducted at Green Spring.
• Oct. 28 - Martha McCartney, Historian, will discuss the history of Sir Willliam Berkeley and Green Spring Plantation on the 28th.
