"PARK PACKS" - New at the Williamsburg Regional Library

Take a hike at York River State Park with the Williamsburg Regional Library’s new Park Packs! Park packs are backpacks filled with field guides, nature stories, park maps and tools for investigating the outdoors. Topics will include birds, reptiles & amphibians, fossils, water life, plants & fungi and night life. Packs will be available for checkout in mid-April, just in time for spring break and Earth Day, which is April 22, 2001.

This is a joint venture of the library and the state park, which is located off of Riverview Road, about a ten minute drive from the James City County Library. A grant from the Friends of Williamsburg Regional Library funded the project. The park has also donated several items for the packs.

York River State Park covers over 2,505 acres and has 12 miles of hiking trails. It also has equestrian and bike trails, picnic shelters and offers fishing in Woodstock Pond, Taskinas Creek and the York River. The park’s estuarine environment supports a wide range of wildlife.

The backpacks will be housed at the James City County Library on Croaker Road. Patrons who wish to check them out from the Williamsburg Library on Scotland Street may do so by placing them on hold. Check-out time will be one week.

SPECIAL STORYTIME: APRIL 18, 2001

Also..... don’t miss this fun storytime: York River State Park Chief Ranger Brad Thomas will read a snake story and bring a snake with him on Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at the James City County Library. Youth Services will be hosting crafts that afternoon as well, so come out and enjoy both activities! Free and open to all.
