Williamsburg Library Celebrates its Rededication
April 26, 1998

In January, 1997, construction started on the 11,400 square foot expansion of the Williamsburg Library, plus considerable renovation of existing space. April 26, from 1-5, we invite you to join your friends and neighbors in a Rededication Celebration at the Williamsburg Library.

We celebrate the work of O. K. James Construction (Kent James, Owner; Mike Newhall, Site Superintendent), Gilbane Construction Management (Greg Dunkle, Construction Manager), the City of Williamsburg (Ralph Patterson, Project Manager) and Hopke and Associates Architects in building a space large enough to accommodate the excellent library service the staff have provided unceasingly, even in a construction area.

We celebrate the library's many enthusiastic patrons, who have accommodated themselves to the vagaries of construction area library service with rarely a complaint, while regularly complimenting staff on their geniality during sometimes trying circumstances.

We celebrate the Williamsburg City Council, which provided funding for the project.

We celebrate the Williamsburg Regional Library Board of Trustees, whose unqualified support for excellent library service underpins all that the Williamsburg Regional Library is and will become.

And finally, we celebrate the accomplishments of an individual--Peg Bradshaw, WRL's Director of Collection Services--who for the past year and a half has also been the library's construction liaison. Peg cheerfully accepted an assignment that could have consumed an entire additional staff position. She learned that she had heretofore largely untapped talents in the areas of public building interior design, vendor negotiations, construction site/library service integration, construction team/library staff mediation and, of course, management of the moving/storing/moving/storing/ moving/finally reshelving, thousands and thousands of library books. The most frequently heard words around WL for the past year have been, "Ask Peg." Fortunately, she almost always knew the answer.

So, thanks everybody, for a job well done. Now come help us celebrate.

The celebration will include: cake, giveaways, special storytimes, and visits by literary character Winnie the Pooh. There will also be live musical entertainment by Tim Seaman, Barry Trott Duo, a harp ensemble, and others.
