SUMMER READING

The Williamsburg Regional Library has Summer Reading programs for ALL AGES!


      

for preschool - grade 5

  for middle & high school students

for adults


WHO: All children, readers and listeners, from birth to those entering grade 5

WHERE: Williamsburg Library, James City County Library and the WRL Bookmobile

WHEN: Registration starts Saturday, June 15. Sharing titles starts Monday, June 24 and ends Sunday, August 4.  Sharing time begins 30 minutes after the library opens, and ends 30 minutes before it closes.

HOW: Register and receive your reading log. Every time you do one of the following, record it on this reading log:

  read or listen to a book, or
  read or listen for 30 minutes to a book or part of a book, or
  read or listen to 30 pages
  You may do any combination of books, time and/or pages to earn each reward.

Come to the library each week to share what you have read with staff. Each week that you come and share you will receive an incentive.  Incentives will be posted in the Summer Reading Rooms at both libraries and on the Bookmobile.  For each space you complete, you will receive a star for the flag on the cover.  For each 14 spaces you complete on the reading log, you will receive a prize listed below.

  • Read 14 books, or
  • Read for 420 min., or
  • Read 420 pages
  • Read 28 books, or
  • Read for 840 min., or
  • Read 840 pages
  • Read 42 books, or
  • Read for 1,260 min., or
  • Read 1,260 pages
YOU MAY DO ANY COMBINATION OF BOOKS, TIME, AND/OR PAGES TO EARN EACH INCENTIVE

*FLAG LAPEL PIN FOR GRADES 2-5

To Earn a Gold Card:
Read 42 books, or read for 1,260 minutes, or read 1,260 pages, or visit the library once each week for the six weeks of the program.

If you already have a gold card, you will earn a special sticker for your card and:

  For children from birth to those entering grade 3 - a patriotic pencil
  For children entering grades 4 and 5 - a jeweled flag pin

WHO: Middle and high school students

WHERE: You may participate at only one of the following locations:  Williamsburg Library, James City County Library, or the Williamsburg Regional Library Bookmobile. The live auction will take place in the Williamsburg Library Theatre.

WHEN: You may spin from 10:30 a.m. until 30 minutes before the library closes. 
       
         Registration starts: June 15
         Spinning starts: June 24
         Spinning Ends: August 4
         Live Auction: August 9 at 2:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. - WL Theatre
         Silent Auction: due August 4 at 5:00 p.m.

HOW: Spin the wheel for the books you read and earn "library" money to use at the auction.

You may spin once for each book you read as follows: 

     
  Up to 20 spins on your first visit 
     
  Up to 15 spins each week after your first visit 
     
  You may include up to 5 picture books each week 
     
  Books over 150 pages count as 2 


Additional Information:
You may buy ONE PRIZE. 
Leftover money may be used in a raffle. 
In order to participate, be sure to bring your checks. 
Preferred admission to the theatre will be given to participants; guests will be
accommodated as space permits.

WHO: All adults

WHERE: Williamsburg Library, James City County Library and the WRL Bookmobile

WHEN: Submit your entries starting June 24.  You can enter every week!  (Ends August 4)

HOW: Winners will be chosen from entries each week.  There will also be grand prize winners.  Here's how to enter:

     
  Read a library book of your choice
       
Pick up some entry forms at the library 
       
Write a short review 
       
Put your entry in the box

Weekly prizes are bags of goodies.  Grand prizes are gift certificates to area restaurants and other great prizes!
