The AARP TAX-AIDE PROGRAM at the Williamsburg Regional Library begins on Friday, February 1, 2002 and runs through April 15. Tax-Aide is sponsored by the AARP Foundation in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service. The Tax-Aide Program provides tax counseling and tax preparation free of charge for low and middle income taxpayers of all ages, with special attention to those ages 59 and older. This year, an emphasis will be on electronic filing with computers provided by the IRS. E-filed refunds with direct deposit are generally received within two weeks of submission. The Williamsburg Regional Library is one of only a handful of Virginia libraries providing facilities for the Tax-Aide Program and has done so since 1983. Tax-Aide counselors are volunteers who are certified annually after passing a comprehensive IRS test. They accept no gifts or gratuities for their services. They are prepared to complete all common forms and schedules for individual tax returns. Business forms will normally be limited to Schedules C-EZ, D and SE. Clients who are delinquent in the filing of returns for past years will be assisted only if they have all the required background materials available and can be helped without inconvenience to others. 2002 SCHEDULE FOR AARP TAX-AIDE AT THE WILLIAMSBURG REGIONAL LIBRARY
