The Williamsburg Regional Library (WRL) Board of Trustees has appointed Genevieve S. Owens to serve as the Library’s Interim Director effective Jan. 1, 2014. Ms. Owens, currently the Library Assistant Director, will assume her new role upon the departure of WRL's current Director, Dr. John A. Moorman, who will be retiring in December. Ms. Owens appointment will remain in effect until a Director is hired.
"I am very pleased that such a talented administrator as Genevieve will lead the Library during this transition," said WRL Board Chair Jean Van Tol. "She has a depth of library experience in both public and university settings and is actively engaged as a leader in many community activities." During her tenure at WRL, Ms. Owens has been responsible for budget preparation, strategic planning, adult services, circulation, information technology, outreach and youth services. Additionally, she serves as president of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services, a division of the American Library Association. Ms. Owens received her bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky and her M.L.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
The WRL Board of Trustees is currently undergoing a national search to appoint a new director.
Williamsburg Regional Library consists of the James City County Library, Mobile Library Services and the Williamsburg Library and serves more than 85,000 people in the City of Williamsburg, James City County and York County. For the past five years the national publication Library Journal has rated WRL as one of the best public libraries in the U.S. by naming it a Star Library.
