Dogs in the library listening to stories read aloud by children? Just watch! It will happen as part of a program called "Paws to Read at Your Library." Children ages 7-10 will read and dogs will listen. Kids may bring their favorite books or choose one at the library to read aloud to their four-footed friends, trained therapy dogs provided by K9 Connection in Williamsburg. There is no cost for participants, however, a permission form signed by a parent is required for each child.

Paws to Read-type programs exist throughout the U.S., some in schools, others successfully sponsored by libraries. Results reported include improved reading scores, increased confidence in reading, and an overall feeling that reading is fun.
