Global Film and Migration Series - Casablanca (1942, USA) - 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. - WL Theatre
Migration and motion picture film have a shared history that has shaped human existence and our understanding of it since the end of the nineteenth century. What is the relationship between migration and film? How has film helped us understand and respond to the role of migration in shaping modern lives? These and other questions motivate this film series - presented in partnership with the College of William and Mary. A series of free film showings will be presented in the Williamsburg Library Theatre between January and March. - FREE

Celtic Film - My Childhood and My Ain Folks (rated PG, 1972) - 7:00 p.m. - WL Theatre
The first two parts of Bill Douglas' influential trilogy (the concluding episode shows in February) harks back to his impoverished upbringing in early-40s Scotland. Cinema was his only escape - he paid for it with the money he made from returning empty jam jars - and this escape is reflected most closely at this time of his life as an eight-year-old living on the breadline with his half-brother and sick grandmother in a poor mining village. The Library presents the Celtic Film Series in cooperation with the local chapters of the St. Andrews Society and the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. The series explores the history, drama and quirky humor of films made in or about Scotland and Ireland. - FREE
