(rescheduled date) Centuries of Art @ Your Library - Printed Pictures: Albrecht Dürer and the Intellectual Renaissance - 7:30 p.m. - WL Theatre
The most famous artist in the Renaissance was not Michelangelo or Leonardo da Vinci, but Albrecht Dürer, the son of a Hungarian goldsmith living in Nuremberg. As he studied to become a painter, Dürer quickly understood that the new medium of printed images could spread artistic ideas along with personal fame much more efficiently and effectively than any other art form, and he devoted the greater part of his career to creating a body of prints of unmatched artistic beauty and exceptional intellectual content. This lecture introduced Dürer's most famous prints, and explores the remarkable levels of meaning that they contain.

Centuries of Art @ Your Library is a partnership between This Century Gallery, the Williamsburg Regional Library and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA). These programs have been organized by the Office of Statewide Partnerships of the VMFA, Richmond, and are supported by the Paul Mellon Endowment. - FREE
