Celtic Film - The General (rated R, 1998) - 7:00 p.m. - WL Theatre
Based on the book by Paul Williams, this film tells the story of Martin Cahill, the notorious thief and gang leader who ruled an underprivileged Dublin neighborhood in the 1980s.  The Library presents the Celtic Film Series in cooperation with the local chapters of the St. Andrews Society and the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. The series explores the history, drama and quirky humor of films made in or about Scotland and Ireland. - FREE

Opening Reception: A Glass Armonica Concert - 7:30 p.m. - WL Theatre
Local musician Dean Shostak introduces audiences to music of Benjamin Franklin's Glass Armonica, which he invented in 1761. The glass armonica was one of the most celebrated instruments of the 18th century, and noted contemporary composers such as Mozart and Donizetti would write music for it.  Dean Shostak has been featured on "All Thing's Considered," "The Early Show," "Mr. Roger's Neighborhood," CNN, HGTV, and many other programs. His music can even be heard on The Weather Channel. Part of "Benjamin Franklin: A Search for a Better World."

Benjamin Franklin: Scientist and Inventor - 7:00 p.m. - JCCL Kitzinger Community Room
W&M professor Emeritus of physics, John McKnight relates the amazing journey of the first world-class American scientist.  As the 10th child of a working-class Boston family who had little formal education, Benjamin Franklin seemed unlikely to achieve.  Still, his innovations as a printer made him wealthy enough by age 42 to pursue his interest in science and the natural world.  His investigation into the phenomenon of electricity won him appointment to the Royal Society and his continuing interest in pure and applied science remained vigorous throughout his time in England and France. Secret Revolution: Intelligence and the American War for Independence - 7:00 p.m. - JCCL Kitzinger Community Room
Founding father, harnesser of electricity, civic leader, Spy?  This last role of Benjamin Franklin’s may not be as well know as his others, yet Franklin ran an intelligence network in Europe during the Revolution.  CIA chief historian David Robarge discusses how civilian and military leaders of the American Revolution used espionage, covert action, counterintelligence, deception operations, and cryptanalysis to offset the British Army's advantage in men and weaponry and help win the fight for independence.  Part of "Benjamin Franklin: A Search for a Better World."
