Women of American Music explores the often unrecognized role women have played in American music. This entertaining and educational program gives audiences insight into the lives, times and musical influences of such women as Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Patsy Cline and Joan Baez. Interspersed with anecdotes from the fascinating and colorful lives of these women are performances of the most influential songs of their careers, as well as songs penned by Barbara and Kim and Lana.

Jazz and blues vocalist and guitarist Barbara Martin is an accomplished vocal interpreter of the great jazz and blues standards yet brave enough to stretch the boundaries of the female jazz and blues singer stereotype. Her recordings and performances have impressed critics and fans alike. Named one of ten worthy jazz singers by Jazziz Magazine, Barbara has recorded and produced nine albums. Her 2010 release, Eyes on the Horizon vocals are described as, “lilting and uplifting, giving off an aura of happiness, similar in register and tone to that of Ella Fitzgerald.” Jim Newsom, Portfolio Magazine. Geoffrey Himes of the Baltimore Sun touts Martin as “…a songwriter with an unexpected gift for sultry melody.”

The original musical compositions of Americana singer/songwriters Kim Person and Lana Puckett have been best described as “music written in the key of life.” Four time Kerrville, TX New Folk Finalists and winner’s of the American Songwriter/Columbia Recording Artist vocal competition, they are nationally recognized for their award winning songwriting, unique vocal styles, harmonies and musicianship. Both women are accomplished multi-instrumentalists, Kim, a finger style acoustic guitarist and pianist and Lana, an acoustic rhythm guitarist and pedal steel guitarist. The long time writing team have garnered an impressive list of career accomplishments, most notably when their original song “Cornstalk Pony” was recorded by legendary singer/songwriter, Steve Gillette of “Darcy Farrow” fame. The duo has three recordings on Cimirron/Rainbird Records produced and engineered by Kim Person.
