Summer storytimes are here! Each week during Summer Reading, we offer a variety of storytimes for all ages. See the storytime calendar here.

For toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age kids, our All Ages/Puppet Storytime features 20-30 minutes of stories, rhymes, and fingerplays designed for children and their caregivers — and from June 14 – August 5, we’ve got puppets! Our fabulous teen volunteers join us in the summer to bring our WRL puppets to life with a variety of sensational songs. Join us after these storytimes for outdoor play at Terrific Tuesdays and Fun Fridays on the Square.

Baby Lapsit Storytime is a program built especially for babies from birth to 18 months and their caregivers. This storytime includes 15 minutes of songs, fingerplays, and lap games. The baby storytime will feature the same songs and activities every week; this repetition of rhymes and songs forms a foundation for learning for your baby and strengthens the language connections in the brain.

Our evening storytime and craft is developed for toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age kids, and features 20-30 minutes of stories, rhymes, and fingerplays designed for children and their caregivers, followed by a fun themed craft. Click here for the list of weekly themes. This storytime is limited in size; free tickets will be given out at the Children’s Desk beginning an hour before storytime.

Story Trail

Take a walk outside and read a picture book along the way on our Story Trail at the James City County Library. Right now we’re reading Mell Fell, the story of a plucky young kingfisher, who decides that it is time to take the leap from the nest.  The pages of this one are oriented vertically to reflect altitude, as Mel plunges down, down, down.  It is written and illustrated by Cory R. Tabor, and won a Caldecott Honor award in 2022.
