The Muscarelle Museum of Art at William & Mary presents Art in the Afternoon From the Muscarelle Vaults, a four-part lecture series presented by Muscarelle Docents. Join us Wednesdays in October for these illuminated art history presentations.
October 4 @ 2pm: Letting the Cat Out of the Bag: Cats in Art* Herding cats? Puss in boots on canvas? A purring pun or two. Ver-Meerkat? We’ve got it all in this lighthearted survey of artists’ representations of cats in various artistic roles. Presented by Lisa Smith.
October 11 @ 2pm: Here’s Lookin’ at You, Kid: The Self-Portrait* looks at the ways artists across the ages have chosen to portray — and perhaps reveal — themselves. Presented by Sandra Stephan.
October 18 @ 2pm: Social Justice: Artists Take Aim will cover the many ways artists take aim at social justice – today and in days gone by. Presented by Harry Chancey.
October 25 @ 2pm: Beyond the Tombstones is designed to comfortably move us from looking to seeing. By exploring beyond the Who, What, When and Where, we can arrive at the stories that every piece of art tells. Presented by Sandra Stephan & Harry Chancey.
