Real People/Real Stories: Beat the Last Drum
January 16 @ 2:00 pm
In January, we’ll be reading Thomas Fleming’s Beat the Last Drum: The Siege of Yorktown. During the 1781 siege of Yorktown, American forces under George Washington and French allies trapped the British navy in the Yorktown harbor and ended the American Revolution. Fleming’s compelling account sets the stage for the February 8 presentation by renowned underwater archaeologist, Dr. John Broadwater of JRS Explorations, Inc., who will talk about his recent excavations of British warships in the York River. Real People/Real Stories looks for those “truth is stranger than fiction” stories. From lesser-known events in history to biographies of the famous and infamous, and from accessible science and nature writing to the arts, librarians will select outstanding titles guaranteed to take you into real places. We meet the 3rd Thursday of each month at the Stryker Center, starting at 2 pm. Williamsburg Regional Library will provide titles. If you can’t find a copy on the shelves, check with the Adult Services reference desk to find out how to get yours.
