Now in its 19th year, the Throwback Thursday Film Series screens a variety of classic and contemporary movies for an adult audience. All films are shown in the Williamsburg Library Theatre.  

August Theme: Cool Capers

August 4, 2:00-3:50 PM : Gambit (1966) 

A cockney cat burglar (Michael Caine) recruits a Eurasian dancer (Shirley MacLaine) in Hong Kong to help him steal a valuable artifact from a Middle Eastern tycoon, but things don’t quite go according to his meticulously-detailed plan in this comedy caper film. Ronald Neame directed with Herbert Lom costarring. NR 1hr 49min

 

August 11, 2:00-3:45 PM : Seven Thieves (1960) 

A band of thieves led by a disgraced professor (Edward G. Robinson) concoct an elaborate scheme to rob a casino at Monte Carlo with the aid of a sexy night club dancer (Joan Collins). Rod Steiger and Eli Wallach costar under the direction of Henry Hathaway. NR 1 hr 42 min

 

August 18, 2:00-3:45 PM : The Hot Rock (1972) 

Robert Redford and George Segal play professional thieves whose efforts to steal a valuable diamond keep getting thwarted by circumstances and bad luck in this light-hearted caper film directed by Peter Yates. William Goldman wrote the screenplay based on a novel by Donald E. Westlake with Zero Mostel and Paul Sand costarring. PG 1 hr 41 m

 

August 25, 2:00-4:00 PM : The League of Gentlemen (1960) 

A British Lieutenant-Colonel plans to break into a bank, a risky scheme that requires military precision and discipline. Fortunately, his crew are a jolly band of ex-servicemen. This popular and influential film stars several well-known British actors including Jack Hawkins, Richard Attenborough, Bryan Forbes, and Roger Livesey. NR 1 hr 56m
