Urban Renewal in the Colonial Capital: Contextualizing the Williamsburg Redevelopment & Housing Authority

William & Mary senior Zach Meredith will present his research on the history of the Williamsburg Redevelopment & Housing Authority (WRHA). The WRHA has overseen projects such as the development of Crispus Attucks Place, Strawberry Plains, and its four public housing communities as well as the redevelopment of the Triangle Block. While focusing on the history of the WRHA, this presentation will also contextualize the broader history of race and class have shaped the development of the Williamsburg area over time. AS examining these histories are critical to current and future decisions related to housing development and city planning, we will conclude with an open dialogue about how to address these issues moving forward.
