Start by learning in this webinar from the Williamsburg Area League of Women Voters, co-sponsored by Williamsburg Regional Library. July 21: Voting Rights in America
How have voting rights in our Constitution evolved since 1787? What did our Founding Fathers envision about voting? What is the history of the power of voting in America? This second Civics 101 webinar from the Williamsburg Area League of Women Voters, co-sponsored by the Williamsburg Regional Library, will answer these questions, review the effects of Jim Crow laws, and prepare voters for the recent changes in election laws in Virginia.

August 18: Women’s Suffrage in America
Who were the women who fought the long battle for suffrage until the 19th Amendment was ratified in 1920? And what was the untold story of women of color who were marginalized in this suffrage movement? The Williamsburg Area League of Women Voters reminds us that women were not GIVEN the right to vote. They fought for it for 72 years and more.

September 15: Barriers to Voting — Voter Suppression or Voter Fraud?
Voter suppression and intimidation have gotten a lot more sophisticated since Jim Crow days. But it is still alive and now includes the spreading of misinformation and charges of fraud. How can voters face these barriers and regain trust in our election system? How much does casting doubt on the legitimacy of elections hurt our democracy? The goal of this webinar from the Williamsburg Area League of Women Voters is to raise awareness of barriers to the ballot box that affect ALL voters, as well as how to face them.
