This month we’re discussing Uncle Silas by Sheridan le Fanu. Silas Rutvyn is something of a riddle. To some, including his niece, he is something of a ghost. As Le Fanu gradually unfolds the layers of this story, we are irresistibly drawn into his world. This eerie and chilling tale is one of the finest examples of the Victorian-Gothic mystery-thriller, and an early example of the locked-room genre.
WhoDunnits is a discussion group devoted to mysteries that follows a yearlong program of books and movies around a single topic. This year it’s Sherlock Holmes’ big brothers — who were the authors who created the detective genre before Arthur Conan Doyle came along?
