Novel Ideas: Home Fire

This month we'll be discussing Home Fire. When is an immigrant no longer an immigrant? Isma, Aneeka, and Parvaiz were born and raised in Britain, but constantly under suspicion because of their jihadist father. Isma has cared for her younger brother and sister, and now has a chance to go to the US for advanced studies. When Parvaiz is seduced into joining ISIS, Isma is tormented by the tension between her trust in British institutions and her love for her family. Aneeka is determined to go to any lengths to get him home, and her decision to involve the son of a local anti-Muslim politician leads to a confrontation none of them expects.

We'll also distribute November's book, News of the World.

Novel Ideas is a librarian-led exploration of classic and contemporary fiction and non-fiction from around the world. This wide-ranging group will sample critically acclaimed and prize-winning titles with open and inclusive discussion aimed at engaging readers with the book and with each other.
