Teen Advisory Group (TAG)

The Teen Advisory Group will meet twice a month during Summer 2021 starting June 2 to share ideas for materials and service for teens as well as complete various tasks to earn volunteer hours. Applications will be considered May 1 to 31, and new TAG volunteers must attend a virtual orientation in May for June participation. This group is for ages 13-18. For more information, contact

Teen Puppeteers

Volunteers perform with puppets behind a puppet theater, lip-syncing to music with Muppet-style puppets. Season runs from September through April. Fill out a volunteer application; call 757.741.3300, option 4 with questions. Please note that no positions are currently available for this role.


Summer Reading

Teens who have completed seventh grade are eligible to volunteer during summer reading.

  • Rising eighth through twelfth graders are welcome
  • Volunteer applications are available beginning in May and close at the end of May.
  • You may work as a summer reading “greeter” or as a storytime puppeteer.
  • Volunteers should enjoy working with young children. They must also attend a training session.
  • We need volunteers during all hours that the library is open. On the application, you will write several times that work for you. Most volunteers choose to work two hours per week.
